Singapore: The only country pavilion exhibiting alongside global industry leaders at the 2nd International Myanmar ICT Exhibition.

MR No.: 042/12
Singapore, Thursday, 11 October 2012

  1. Myanmar’s potential as the last sizeable economy and market in Asia has become more apparent following political and economic reforms. In an effort to develop its hard and soft infrastructure to complement growth, IT spending is expected to rise. International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, the agency driving Singapore’s external economy, will lead its first-ever ICT mission to Myanmar with eight companies from 11 - 14 October 2012.

  1. Singapore companies will meet relevant stakeholders, understand the ICT landscape and discuss potential partnerships. The companies will participate in the 2nd International Myanmar ICT Exhibition and one-to-one business meetings. Companies on the mission cover e-government, connectivity and security. (See Annex 1 for profiles)

  1. Said Mr Jason Lim, Group Director for Technology Business, IE Singapore, “As Myanmar opens up, technology will become vital to its government, businesses and consumers. Singapore ICT companies have significant local and overseas track records due to their experience in building up Singapore’s ICT infrastructure fundamentals; a key pillar supporting growth. Their expertise in ICT solutions, training and advisory can be tailored to Myanmar’s immediate and long-term needs.”

  1. Currently the sixth largest investor in Myanmar with cumulative investments of US$1.8 billion in 20111, Singapore can further its relations with the country as it embraces ICT to integrate into the global economy, and overcome issues of inadequate infrastructure and connectivity. Telecommunications and Internet access are expected to become more widespread as the government develops its information and communications infrastructure. Myanmar’s ICT spending in 2012 is expected to see a 17% year-on-year growth. The market value is forecasted at US$233.56 million by 2016, representing a strong compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16% from 2011 - 20162.

  1. Taking place from 12 - 14 October, the International Myanmar ICT Exhibition will see Singapore as the only country pavilion exhibiting alongside international companies like ASUS, Canon, Dell, Konica Minolta, MIT, Oracle, Redlink and Viewsonic. In collaboration with Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) and Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), and supported by IE Singapore, the Singapore Pavilion is a platform for the Singapore companies to showcase their ICT offerings and strengthen business contacts. Despite only being in its second year, Myanmar’s only international ICT exhibition has gained traction, attracting 36 foreign firms from Brazil, China, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and the US. Foreign participation has increased six times over last year, making up half of the total number of exhibitors.

  1. Participants ANTLAB and CrimsonLogic both expressed their interest in Myanmar’s potential. Said Mr Ang Kwang Tat, Chief Executive Officer of ANTLABS, "We're excited about the opportunity to represent Singapore’s ICT industry at the Exhibition. As pioneers and technology leaders in the hospitality, ISP and Telco connectivity space, we feel there are abundant opportunities for ANTLABS in Myanmar's developing ICT market. Be it business traveller guest access in hotels and airports or providing city-wide hotspots to mobile operator 3G offloading, ANTLABS has all the 'Made in Singapore' leading edge, reliability, and tested technology solutions for Myanmar."

  1. Said Mr Chong Kok Keong, Senior Vice President of CrimsonLogic, “Having worked with governments across Asia, the Middle East, North America and Latin America in the past 20 over years, CrimsonLogic is keen to partner the Myanmar government to develop innovative and sustainable e-government solutions over the long term. We believe that the 2nd International Myanmar ICT Exhibition is a good platform for us to introduce our e-government solutions to the Myanmar government and potential partners.”
