Corporate Social Responsibility
While IE Singapore is dedicated to growing Singapore’s economy, we also want to build an organisation that is socially responsible.

IE's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee function is to make it easier for staff to assimilate the concept and practice of CSR.

From supporting local talent from Women Enterprise Workz (WEworkz) in the commissioning of jewelled lanyards as corporate gifts; to enhancing amenities to employees; to saving the environment; and to opening up work attachments to youths – these are just some projects that have taken place in 2008.

These are baby steps, for we are barely a year old since IE Singapore embarked on the CSR journey. But we are building up momentum, and our efforts will intensify. We will strive to make a more positive impact on the economic and social well-being of the Singapore society, and to create a meaningful difference to the lives of those around us, both within IE Singapore and in the wider community.

Economic
Collaboration with WEworks
IE Singapore supports local talent as well as CSR by commissioning jewelled lanyards from Women Enterprise Workz (WEworkz). The items serve as part of our suite of corporate gifts. WEworkz is a social enterprise launched in March 2008 to empower local women, especially those from low-income families and/or are unable to commit to full-time employment. Engaging them in home-based activities such as jewellery- and candle-making provides training and business opportunities for these women.

Employee
To promote the social, emotional and physical welfare of staff, wide-ranging activities are conducted under IE Singapore’s Workplace Health Promotion programme. Employees have access to facilities like a newly refurbished Recreation Club, complete with apool table, a nursing room and a sick bay.

Alongside these activities, IE Singapore continues to ensure a competitive payout to staff, and seek comprehensive and in-depth staff feedback through channels such as the Organisational Climate Survey which is carried out once every two years.

Environment
Towards a greener office IE Singapore continues to raise awareness about environmental protection and encourages staff to make recycling and resource conservation a daily habit. To help them along, recycling bins are placed prominently within office premises and IE Singapore’s marketing collaterals are now printed on recycled paper. We are also gradually moving away from the printing of publications such as the annual report.

Community
Raising funds for the President’s Challenge

Over 100 IE Singapore staff participated in the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s (MTI) Borderless Day Walk event on 13 March 2009. A cheque was also presented to the President’s Challenge that day, from MTI and its agencies. IE Singapore contributed S$13,000, which was raised through an online auction and sale of movie tickets.

Promoting SHARE – a Community Chest programme
IE Singapore has been actively promoting the SHARE programme to new employees since early 2008. SHARE is a fund-raising programme of the Community Chest (ComChest), where individuals are encouraged to make a monthly contribution to ComChest through their payroll, GIRO, or credit or charge card.
