Hungary is located in the Carpathian Basin of Central Europe, within easy reach of Western Europe. About two thirds of its territory is flat and lies less than 200 meters above sea level.
In addition to rivers and lakes, Hungary is rich in thermal and medicinal waters and springs. The continental climate, the high annual proportion of sunshine and the quality of the soil ensures favourable conditions for agriculture.
A Central European country, Hungary has borders with Austria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine.
